You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. – John Maxwell

Behaviour & Family Consultation

Using a trauma-oriented approach, Tipping Point Behaviour Consultants believe children, youth and adults can gain the necessary skills and resources to heal from past trauma, even in the midst of challenging and dysregulated behaviours.

Implementing a person-centered lens, Tipping Point works to support an individual to maximize their capacity to live well while learning communicative alternatives to challenging behaviour. Specific attention is given to the individual’s likes and dislikes and how these can be used to reshape, redefine and maximize positive behaviour and performance.

Training is also given to the individual and their supporting team to build a harmonious day/week schedule and safety plans (where necessary) so progress can be marked, and success achieved.

What sets Tipping Point’s work apart?

We believe we are on the cutting edge of our field as we identify the root of behavioural dysregulation.  Many of the children/youth we work with have histories of intergenerational complex trauma that impacts their social, emotional, cognitive and physiological function. Challenges are often observed manifesting as a dysregulated autonomic nervous system which can lead to dysregulated emotions. Attachment issues, a damaged sense of self, and low levels of executive function are frequently observed. These ubiquitous symptoms of trauma make function in everyday life difficult if not insurmountable for these survivors and many have trouble maintaining healthy relationships and thriving in school, work and society at large.

Key Components of Tipping Point’s Behaviour & Family Consultation work:

  • Assessment of past trauma – what is impacting behavioural dysregulation?
  • Individualized personal profiles & functional assessments
  • One on one consultation sessions with individual, family members and supporting teams.
  • Team trainings to support individual behaviour plans
  • Therapeutic circles where individuals struggling with similar socialization challenges are given opportunity to grow their skills in a community context.

Therapeutic Circles

An emphasis in our program is a belief that kids can help each other to heal, and this happens best in the context of a therapeutic community. Building on the wisdom of Indigenous practices, a key component of our treatment is taking cohorts of children into nature and community to discover more about their cultural roots and the grounding this provides for healing and recovery. Individual therapy accompanies this part of our program, supporting children to heal the damaged sense of self trauma produces, while forging social connections that break the cycle of past attachment wounds. Participants in this program identify therapeutic circles as the best part of their week.
